Why am I getting document expiration reminders?

Explains why document reminders are sent and what to do if you have a Food Manager or ServSafe Manager certificate but are being asked for a Food Handler certificate.

The Food Corridor sends automatic reminders when a required document is approaching its expiration date β€” 45 days, 2 weeks, and 3 days before it expires. Both you and your kitchen administrator receive these notifications.

If you're getting reminders but believe your documentation is current, here are the most common reasons why.

I uploaded a document but I'm still getting reminders

This usually happens for one of these reasons:

  • No expiration date was entered. When you upload a document, you need to enter its expiration date for the reminder system to work correctly. Go to Documents tab > find the document > click the pencil (edit) icon > enter the expiration date > Save.

  • The document was uploaded as a private document. Private documents are only visible to you, not your kitchen. If your kitchen requires a document, it needs to be uploaded to the required documents section, not private documents.

  • The document has already expired. If the expiration date on your uploaded document has passed, you'll receive reminders until a current document is uploaded.

My kitchen requires a Food Handler certificate, but I have a Food Manager or ServSafe Manager certificate

A Food Manager certificate (such as ServSafe Manager) is a higher-level credential than a Food Handler certificate β€” it covers everything a Food Handler certificate does and more. However, The Food Corridor's document reminder system is based on what your kitchen has set as a requirement in their account.

If your kitchen has "Food Handler Certificate" listed as a required document but you hold a Food Manager certificate, the system may still prompt you. The fix is simple: contact your kitchen directly and let them know you hold a Food Manager certification. Since the Food Manager certificate covers everything a Food Handler certificate does, you will likely be able to upload this document instead. Just check with your kitchen to confirm.

How to update or replace a document

  1. Go to your Documents tab.

  2. Find the document you want to update.

  3. Click the pencil (edit) icon to the right of the document name.

  4. Upload the new file and enter the updated expiration date.

  5. Click Save.

Your kitchen will be notified automatically once the updated document is on file.
